For the 2008 season, 'Points Classes' will immediately follow the draw event. There will be four classes, Youth, 5, 7 and Open. All classes are based on member ratings, where the total of the riders rating must be equal to or less then the class they are riding in.

End of the Year reminder
In order to qualify for year end awards, members must have attended a minimum of 25% of regular point events. The minimum number will be determined at the end of the season, once the final tally of events run (minus rain-day cancellations) is known. Members qualifying for year end rewards with be marked with an asterisk (*).

Youth  


Individuals receive points on their best two results of the day regardless of the class or number of classes entered. New in 2007: No points will be dropped at the end of year (note: missed days count as 0). Buckles will be awarded, at the banquet, to the highest point scorer in each rating number. To qualify to win a buckle riders must have attended a minimum of 6 regular events. Points are awarded as follows:

  • 1st place 15
  • 2nd place 12
  • 3rd place 10
  • 4th place 8
  • 5th place 6
  • 6th place 4
  • participation 2

Ratings
Please direct any questions or concerns about ratings to the executive. All ratings are subject to change once ability is determined. If a penner's rating is adjusted during the season all points accumulated to date will transfer to the new rating.

Appeals
If, after reading the guidelines below, you feel your rating should be reviewed, please download and fill out the Rating Appeal Form. Submit your written request, accompanied with the $10 fee, to the EOTPA club president before July 1st of the current penning season. Your request will be presented to the rating committee. If your appeal is successful the $10 fee will be refunded.

Rating guidelines
Rating #1: Penner displays beginning knowledge of the sport. Is unsure of positioning. Displays limited knowledge of working cattle. May show lack of confidence.

Rating #2: Penner displays knowledge of sport, and displays knowledge of positioning required durin run. Penner may not always be in position, but is aware when a mistake is made when out of position. Has average cattle reading ability. Displays confidence and ability.

Rating #3: Penner displays above average knowledge of sport. Rarely out of position. Displays above average cattle reading ability. Displays confidence.

Rating #4: Penner displays all of the ability of a #3, plus excels in one or more of the following: Team work; able to adjust to team members of any level of ability; Superior cattle working ability; Superior horsemanship; Superior knowledge of the sport and positiong etc; Displays ability to regularly place in open class pennings.
